A 56-year-old man has died after a bus accident at Labieux and Bowen roads at 4:25 p.m. yesterday afternoon.
Paramedics attended the scene and there were three people who had injuries, according to a B.C. Transit press release.
“Just before 5 p.m., an RDN Transit bus had turned right onto Labieux Road off Bowen, so it was going west and then a pickup, towing a trailer, came out of Mid-Island Co-op parking lot, turned in front of the bus; the bus driver, to avoid a collision braked, the [bus] passenger … suddenly fell forward.
“He was knocked unconscious, transported to the hospital where he was declared dead,” Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said to the News Bulletin.

The driver of the truck that allegedly cut off the bus met with police over the weekend.
“The driver has identified himself and attended our detachment and provided a statement to investigators,” O’Brien said.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
“Currently, while waiting for the results of the mechanical inspection of the [bus], we are attempting to locate any potential witnesses and review any video surveillance of the area,” O’Brien said.
