UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP arrest prolific offender

Peter Anthony Alexander, 31, wanted for break-and-enter and possession of stolen property has been arrested.

The Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a suspect they consider to be a prolific offender.

Peter Anthony Alexander, 31, was wanted on three counts of break-and-enter, as well as four counts of possession of stolen property.

Alexander was arrested at about 6 p.m. Saturday at a home on Mexicana Drive as he was allegedly attempting to make a hasty retreat through a rear window of the residence.

One of the officers on scene, Sgt. Donovan Tait, managed to subdue Alexander and take him into custody. Alexander was then transported to the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment.

According to an RCMP press release, Alexander has an "extensive criminal background" and is considered violent.

Alexander was also arrested in 2015 and convicted for breaking into two buildings on Vancouver Island University campus and taking approximately $70,000 worth of electronics. He was sentenced to nine months' jail time.

Alexander has been held in custody to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday (May 10).
