UPDATE: Charge laid in Nanaimo murder

NANAIMO – Suspect charged with killing father in central Nanaimo apartment Wednesday.

A charge of murder has been laid in the death of a man whose body was discovered in an apartment on Rock City Road early Wednesday evening.

Aaron Roger Harvey, 27, has been charged with second degree murder and remanded into police custody until Tuesday (Feb. 19).

Harvey is accused of killing his biological father, Roger Harvey, 69, police announced today (Feb. 15).

“Roger Harvey sustained injuries and died in his apartment, but as to the exact cause of death we can't say," said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.

A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday (Feb. 18) in Nanaimo to determine the cause of death.

O'Brien said the men had shared the apartment for at least two years with no prior incidents.

The death is Nanaimo's second murder of 2013.
