Two people escape injury from helicopter crash near Nanaimo

NANAIMO – Two-seater private helicopter purchased as a kit.

Two people escaped a helicopter crash near Nanaimo without any injuries Tuesday.

According to Bill Yearwood, Transport Safety Board of Canada regional manager for aviation investigations, the crash occurred west of Nanaimo. The pilot lost control after take off.

“The pilot and passenger are OK,” said Yearwood. “We've spoken to the pilot. This is a small, two-seater helicopter ... the aircraft can be purchased as a kit and the discussion with the pilot, just to gather data, has revealed that it was clear that there's no need for us to carry out any in-depth investigation."

Because the helicopter is private, not used for commercial purposes and there were no injuries, Yearwood said the information the pilot shared will only be entered into the system.
