Trial date for accused gunman in Nanaimo mill shooting expected in May

NANAIMO – Kevin Douglas Addison faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The trial date for the accused gunman in the shooting at Western Forest Products last year is expected to be set on May 25.

Kevin Douglas Addison, 47 at the time of the incident, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for the shooting, which happened in April of last year.

A preliminary hearing, to determine if there is sufficient evidence for trial, took place in March and while it was thought a date would be set on Monday, it was pushed ahead more than a month.

“[We want] to make sure everything is ready before we set a date, basically that's it,” said Scott Van Alstine, Crown counsel.
