It’s a three-way bid for passenger ferry service between downtown Nanaimo and Vancouver.

The City of Nanaimo announced today (June 2) that three operators responded to an expression of interest, which closed Tuesday.

Submissions came from Australia-based Riverside Marine, also V2V Vacations, Clipper Navigation and Island Ferry Services Ltd.

Proponents had the ability to choose whether they lease land on the south industrial waterfront from the City of Nanaimo or Nanaimo Port Authority. The submissions are confidential.

An independent technical advisory committee will be struck to look at submissions and make recommendations to the City of Nanaimo and Nanaimo Port Authority.  City council and the port authority board would ratify the decision and the selected operator would negotiate a lease and operating agreement with the landlord.

More to come.
