Thousands fall in for Remembrance Day ceremony

Spectators jammed downtown streets to honour veterans at Remembrance Day ceremonies in Nanaimo Wednesday.

The event held at the cenotaph in Dallas Square Square Park on Front Street

drew thousands of people who wanted to honour Canada's military and police veterans who have served in conflicts an peacekeeping actions around the world.

The event opened with a veterans march to cadence set by the Nanaimo Scottish Pipes and Drums and included a Prayer of Remembrance, hymns, guns salutes by the 5th Field Artillery Battalion, playing of Last Post, two minutes of silence and Reveille.

Veterans of all Canadian military branches attended along with veterans from the U.S., Australia, Britain and other European countries.
