Police came across an illegally parked car and ended up finding a number of stolen tools.

According to an RCMP press release, the tools were found July 6 at about 1 p.m. when an police offer noticed a vehicle was illegally parked in the 200 block of Victoria Road.

The officer spoke with the 37-year-old driver and asked about the origin of the tools that were in the back seat of the vehicle. The question, the release noted, “led to several nonsensical responses which just didn’t add up for the officer.”

It became clear to the officer that the tools had most likely been obtained through illegal means, but since the officer could not definitely establish that the occupants of the vehicle had stolen the tools, the items were seized and the vehicle’s occupants were sent on their way.

Anyone who believes they are the rightful owner of the tools and can provide receipts, serial numbers or describe unique features and markings is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP detachment non-emergency number at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2022-23188.
