A would-be dog-napper fled the scene before he could snatch a shih tzu this week.

According to police, the attempt to steal the pet happened in an apartment on the 400 block of Selby Street on Monday at about 7 a.m. when the tenant woke up to find a man trying to take the resident’s beige shih tzu.

When confronted, the suspect leaped off the apartment balcony and ran off without the dog.

The suspect is in his 20s, about 5-foot-8 with a slim build and was wearing a black baseball cap, black pants and a white shirt.
