The Nanaimo RCMP is asking the public for help to identify a suspect in a parka and pyjama pants who allegedly carried off a speaker system from an electronics store without paying.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, at about 10:45 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, a woman allegedly walked out of the Best Buy store in Country Club Centre with a JBL Partybox speaker. Employees told police the suspect made no attempt to pay for the product.

Officers patrolled the area around the mall and didn’t find the suspect, but a security camera image was obtained of the person leaving leaving the store with the merchandise. The suspect was wearing a burgundy winter parka with a fur-lined hood pulled up, and wearing light-coloured pyjama pants with cartoon characters printed on them.

Anyone who can identify the individual is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2023-921.
