Student voices missed at board meetings

Nanaimo trustees want to hear more from students at school board meetings.

Nanaimo trustees want to hear more from students.

Trustees at the education committee meeting decided to send out an invitation to students at all elementary and secondary schools urging them to do presentations at the beginning of board meetings on things that are happening at their schools.

“We haven’t had that many [student presentations] in the past few years, so this is simply making them feel welcomed,” said Jamie Brennan, school board chairman. “Trustees really like to know what’s going on, give students a chance. It’s refreshing, it gives us a sense of why we’re there.”
