The arrest of a Qualicum Beach man by the Oceanside RCMP led to the recovery of a number of stolen vehicles.
A search warrant was executed by the Oceanside RCMP on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the 800 block of Hilliers Road South, according to a written RCMP release.
“A 47-year-old man from Qualicum Beach was arrested the day prior for being in possession of a stolen vehicle on the same property,” Cpl. Jesse Foreman wrote in the release. “Upon arrest, there were other suspicious vehicles on the property. This prompted RCMP officers to apply for (a warrant) in order to search the property further.”
As a result of the search, three stolen vehicles, a stolen utility trailer, a stolen dirt bike and a stolen RV were seized off the rural acreage and will be returned to the rightful owners, police said.
The suspect has been released on a promise to appear in court in Nanaimo in February 2018.
The release also stated another suspect, who is well-known to police for auto theft, has been identified with respect to his involvement, and a warrant will be sought for his arrest.
“This is a great example of the officers taking the investigation a step further,” said Foreman. “Acquiring further information in order to get stolen property back to the rightful owners is a very positive outcome.”
