Molly, a puppy reported stolen from Nanaimo, in early July is home safe and sound.

Police and dog’s owner Vicki Bunnie have been searching for the six-month-old rottweiler, shepherd, Labrador cross since she was stolen July 10 while she was tied up outside London Drugs at Port Place Shopping Centre.

Bunnie was contacted last week by city officials who told her Molly had been found in Parksville and was being cared for.

The finder, who wishes to remain anonymous, said Molly wondered into her backyard about two weeks ago and, other than being thirsty and looking a little thin, did not appear to have been mistreated.

The finder made several local inquiries with no success until she called the number on Molly's tag and was told of the dog’s ordeal. The finder and owner were put in touch with each other and within 24 hours Molly was back with her owner.

“We are pleased this incident came to a happy conclusion,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. “It also stresses the importance of having your family pets licensed in the event they are ever lost or stolen.”
