Stabbing suspect and victim released

The victim of a stabbing incident behind Value Village Friday and his alleged attacker were released from hospital on the weekend.

Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said both men were arrested at the scene until police sorted out details of the altercation.

The men were taken to hospital, one with a stab wound to his hand and the other with an injury to his forehead. Neither injuries were life threatening.

The incident happened about 3 p.m. Friday when the men got into an altercation. Police are not saying what started the fight.

Both men were released from hospital that night after being treated for their injuries.

Police recommended a charge of assault with a weapon against one man, 57, who police will not identify until he is formally charged. He has been released on a promise to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Sept. 6. He is also under a restriction from possessing knives as a condition of his release.

No charges are pending against the victim, 44.
