Sports car crashes into Nanaimo’s Italian fountain downtown

Driver uninjured in accident at 1:30 a.m. Thursday

A muscle car smashed into the Italian fountain in downtown Nanaimo in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The driver wasn’t injured in the crash, which happened at about 1:40 a.m.

A witness said the driver was the only occupant of the Chevrolet Camaro and she was looked over by paramedics but wasn’t transported to hospital.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief Brad Wood said there was a little bit of damage to a street light and electrical box and minor damage to the fountain.
