The Snaw-Naw-As Campground has received $242,496 as part of a $21.3 million investment from the provincial government for ‘shovel-ready’ destination development projects.

In a release issued Feb. 4, Parksville-Qualicum MLA Adam Walker said the new support from the provincial government for tourism projects in Nanoose Bay will attract visitors, boost local economies and help communities recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Tourism is a key part of our local economy and that’s why we are investing in projects that will make our region even more open to visitors,” he said. “This funding for facility upgrades at Snaw-Naw-As Campground will help the Snaw-Naw-As Nation prepare to welcome more tourists next summer to explore this beautiful part of the Island.”

The destination development funding invests in implementation-ready tourism infrastructure and amenities projects that support the recovery and resilience of tourism by creating jobs and developing infrastructure that will attract visitors to B.C. communities in the near and long term.

Projects were chosen for their demonstrated tourism benefits to communities and British Columbians, along with new jobs, many of which will provide employment for apprentices, youth, new Canadians, women and First Nations.
