Skies darkened a little bit as the last long weekend of summer came to an end.

A smoky skies bulletin was issued Tuesday by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, in collaboration with Island Health, covering east, west, inland and north Vancouver Island, Greater Victoria and the southern Gulf Islands.

The bulletin was issued “because of forest fire smoke that is covering the area. Smoke concentration will vary widely as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change.”

A smoky skies bulletin is issued when smoke concentrations in an area have, or may, reach levels that could be a health concern.

Members of the public who are sensitive to effects from smoke should monitor any symptoms and, if necessary, try to reduce their exposure to the smoke.
