A litter of 16 purebred black Lab puppies were born on Sunday on an Errington farm.

Alex Fras, owner of the puppies’ parents, said birthing continued all night long.

“It started at 10 p.m. and ended at like 4:45 a.m.,” he said. “I thought there was only going to be four.”

Fras said he is not a breeder and the births were not planned. He bought the mother (Sophie) in Prince George about a year ago and then on another trip up north, purchased the father. He said the rest is history.

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest number of puppies born in one litter was 24 in the United Kingdom in 2004 to a Neopolitan mastiff.

Fras’ lab puppies go for their first vet visit on Thursday. Check The News’ website Thursday afternoon for an updated story and photos.
