Six canoeists plucked from Nanaimo Harbour

NANAIMO – Six women pulled from Nanaimo Harbour after outrigger canoe capsizes on weekend.

Six female canoeists got some help from Nanaimo Harbour Patrol when their outrigger canoe capsized on the weekend.

The incident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. Saturday, just inside Nanaimo Harbour waters.

Harbour patrol vessel Osprey was en route to a medical aid aboard a tug boat when it was diverted to pick up the women, said Edward Dahlgren, Nanaimo Port Authority harbour master.

The women were brought ashore where they were tended to by Nanaimo Fire Rescue and B.C. Ambulance crews.

One of the canoeists received a cut on her head when the craft overturned. No other injuries were reported.
