A fire broke out on a property located on Stonewall Drive in Yellow Point last week. The Oct. 27 incident was upgraded to a structure fire based on information supplied to dispatch by multiple 911 calls.
The incident brought out seven members of the North Oyster Fire Department, five members from Ladysmith Fire Rescue and five trucks.
“We received reports of an explosion at the scene while en route, but once on site, the members didn’t see any,” said Steve Wisely, North Oyster deputy chief.
Fast work by fire personnel prevented the flames from spreading into the nearby bush and forest.
The detached, tarp-covered structure was being used as a shop by an individual renting the space from the property owner. A pickup truck stored in the structure was totally destroyed along with assorted pieces of equipment, automotive parts and some welding equipment. The renter had been working out of town for a few weeks, and it was unclear whether any other individuals had been using the shop in his absence.
RCMP members attended and assessed the scene to try to identify the cause but at press time there was still no determination of the cause.
