A woman was taken to hospital with what police described as serious but non life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a vehicle Tuesday.
The incident happened near the intersection of Haliburton Street and the Island Highway shortly before 4 p.m. when the 78-year-old woman from Kamloops was walking along the shoulder of the road and was hit by a westbound vehicle attempting to merge onto the highway.
The 59-year-old male driver from Nanaimo stopped and provided assistance to the victim, who was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
