Search and rescue called to Nanaimo lake

NANAIMO – Police, searchers looking for 72-year-old Nanaimo man after concerned family contacted RCMP.

The Nanaimo RCMP and Nanaimo Search and Rescueare conducting a search for a 72-year-old male whose canoe was found late yesterday afternoon on Second Lake.

Second Lake is one of four lakes located off Nanaimo River Road. The male resides in a cabin on the lake and has been experiencing some medical issues which have caused concern for his family, according to a Nanaimo RCMP press release.

His family contacted Nanaimo RCMP yesterday, after visiting his cabin on Tuesday. His canoe was found on a sandbar near the bridge.

Search and rescue was called out this morning and are conducting a perimeter search of the lake.

The RCMP Dive team has also been contacted and are prepared to begin searching the lake tomorrow morning, if necessary.
