PREVIOUSLY POSTED: A ground search will commence in Nanaimo after an 82-year-old woman wandered away from her Stephenson Point area home sometime last night.

In a press release, RCMP say Nanaimo Search and Rescue will be searching the area after Elizabeth Gilchrist, 82, was reported missing. The woman’s daughter arrived at her mother’s home this morning, Dec. 13, at about 11 a.m. and found the front door open and her mother nowhere to be seen. The missing woman has significant medical issues, the press release stated, and that together with her age and current weather conditions have officials extremely worried for her safety and well-being.

She is 5-foot-4 with a slim build and platinum-coloured hair, noted the press release.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call 911 and anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 citing file No. 2022-43490.
