The provincial election isn’t until May 14, but Nanaimo-North Cowichan NDP MLA Doug Routley isn’t wasting any time.
He officially opens his campaign office at 341 First Ave. in Ladysmith Saturday (March 16), a month before the writ is dropped and the campaign period begins.
The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Routley speaks at noon.
The reason behind opening early is “to get out in front of our competition and stay there,” said Mike McNamara, president and campaign manager, in a press release.
“I learned a long time ago that if you don’t run scared, you run second,” added Routley, who won the riding in 2009 by a margin of more than 54 per cent, in the release.
