A 65-year-old Nanaimo woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and had her vehicle impounded following a car and trailer rollover.

A 65-year-old Nanaimo woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and had her vehicle impounded following a car and trailer rollover on the Island Highway south of Morden Road Wednesday.

Nanaimo RCMP responded to the crash at about 4:30 p.m. when a northbound, blue 2000 Saturn, towing a U-built trailer, went over a bank on the side of the highway.

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman said witnesses reported the trailer appeared overloaded with wood and began to fishtail.

“Officers had grounds to believe alcohol was involved and carried out an impaired driving investigation," he said. "Based on the evidence, they issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and impounded the vehicle. She was also issued a violation ticket for an unsecured cargo.”

Neither the driver or her 50-year-old male passenger were injured in the crash.
