Restaurant dust up sends two men to Nanaimo hospital

NANAIMO – Two men are recovering from head injuries after alcohol-fuelled fist fight at Cactus Club Cafe on weekend.

An alcohol-fuelled fist fight at the Cactus Club sent two men to hospital on the weekend, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

The brawl, which broke out in the restaurant and finished up in the parking lot, happened at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday.

Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said two men are in stable condition at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital recovering from head injuries.

"One was initially airlifted to Victoria General Hospital and they're both at NRGH now," O'Brien said. "No charges at this point. It was just an altercation between two groups of people."

O'Brien said police are not commenting on what caused tempers to flare, but four to seven people were involved in the "dust up." Those who were involved are cooperating with police and plenty of witnesses were on hand at the restaurant.

"Alcohol was certainly a determining factor," O'Brien said.
