A new chief administrative officer is set to take the helm at the Regional District of Nanaimo in the summer.
According to a press release, Douglas Holmes, currently working as CAO for Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, will take over for Phyllis Carlyle on Aug. 23.
Holmes was selected by the RDN board after a cross-country search and has over 25 years’ experience in the public sector. He is a chartered professional accountant, said the press release, with a bachelor of business administration from Simon Fraser University.
Holmes said he is looking forward to bringing his skill set to the RDN.
“As a longtime resident of Nanaimo, I am familiar with both the opportunities and challenges we face as a region and appreciate the opportunity to help shape the future of the RDN,” Holmes said in the press release.
Tyler Brown, RDN board chairperson, said he and his fellow directors were pleased to welcome Holmes into the fold.
“He brings a strong financial background, extensive public-sector experience, and comprehensive knowledge of the regional district and central Vancouver Island area to our senior leadership team,” said Brown in the press release. “We look forward to working with [him] on our strategic priorities and charting a livable and environmentally sustainable path for the region.”
Brown thanked Carlyle for her “exceptional service” to the RDN over the past five years and wished her well.
The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, in a press release, announced Holmes’s resignation and thanked him for four “excellent years of service.”
