The Regional District of Nanaimo board has voted to join the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.
Directors voted to join the alliance at its board meeting on May 26, following a presentation from Ron Cantelon, alliance chairman-elect.
“Our whole goal, our whole motive of operations is to foster economic development, bring new ideas to Nanaimo to enable collaboration and co-operation among people who want to make new ideas happen,” said Cantelon. “We’re not the deal makers, but we want deal makers together in a forum for them to create new economies and new opportunities.”
The regional district will have to pay an annual fee of $1,000, which will allow board directors and staff to be members.
The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance is a non-profit society that aims to lead economic development on the Island. It is funded by sponsorships, membership fees and money from events.
