Red umbrellas significant to event rally

NANAIMO – International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers takes place Monday (Dec. 17).

Workers and volunteers from Nanaimo Women’s Centre and Haven Society mark the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers Monday (Dec. 17) with an event at Diana Krall Plaza.

The event, which runs 2-6 p.m., started in 2003 as a memorial for victims of the Green River killer.

Red umbrellas, part of the event, symbolize resistance to descrimination of sex workers.
