The Regional District of Nanaimo will enter into three-year deals with three law firms for commonplace services.

Legal service deals with Stewart McDannold Stuart and Harris and Company LLP are expiring and on Tuesday night, the RDN board gave approval for the district to enter into standing offer agreements with Lidstone and Company and Young Anderson for routine legal advice, including construction law.

Similar agreements with Harris and Company and Lidstone and Company for labour and work-related law will also be signed and Phyllis Carlyle, RDN CAO, will have authorization to enlist other firms in the event of conflict-of-interest situations or when a matter is outside the firms’ scope of expertise.

In an e-mail, Wendy Idema, RDN director of financial services, said the agreements are where the vendor allows the buyer to purchase goods and services at a set price for a set period of time.

The legal services budget for 2018 is $250,175, which is spread over all the RDN’s services, Idema said.

There are possibilities for two one-year extensions.
