Regional District of Nanaimo residents have more than $190,000 in rebates available for environmental improvements for their homes.
In a press release, the RDN said it is now accepting applications for improvements that mitigate effects of climate change and support environmental stewardship, ranging from $100-$1,000 depending on the program. Both municipal and rural residents have access to water stewardship rebates, including up to $750 for rainwater harvesting, and up to $675 for irrigation upgrades and soil improvements, noted the press release.
RDN rural and municipal residents, excluding in City of Nanaimo which has its own program, are also eligible for rebates of up to $1,000 for woodstove exchanges.
Rebates of $250 for those looking to switch from oil heating to heat pumps, and up to $150 for residential electric vehicle charging stations are available to rural area residents only.
Rebates will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are spent, said the RDN.
