RDN Briefs: Final approval to water restriction guidelines, rate increase

NANAIMO – The Regional District of Nanaimo will adopt water restriction guidelines.

The Regional District of Nanaimo board will be using the same framework as the City of Nanaimo when it comes to watering restrictions.

There was confusion during watering restrictions last summer, with different water restriction levels being used by different municipalities and the district board gave approval to the new framework at its March 22 regular meeting. Various municipalities and stakeholders worked on the guidelines.

The board also gave final approval to staff to write a letter to federal and provincial levels of government voicing opposition to freighters and bulk carriers anchoring off Gabriola Island, after a presentation from Gabriolans Against Freighter Anchorages at its March 8 committee of the whole meeting.

The board also approved an increase to water user rates and the 2016 financial plan at the meeting.
