RCMP not associated with anti-bullying campaign

NANAIMO – RCMP not endorsing Canadian Police Association anti-bullying campaign.

The Nanaimo RCMP is advising the general public it is not involved in a recent telephone campaign by the Canadian Police Association.

The campaign is raising money for the association's national anti-bullying educational program. The RCMP is not affiliated in anyway with the Canadian Police Association.

In recent days Nanaimo RCMP has received numerous phone calls from concerned citizens inquiring whether the telephone solicitation is legitimate.

"The CPA was called this morning and they have confirmed a marketing firm was contracted to undertake a telephone campaign asking for donations to support this campaign," said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. "The CPA were also advised that on some occasions, the telemarketers have implied the RCMP is involved in the campaign."

People with questions about their campaign or want to learn more about the Canadian Police Association, please call 1-613-231-4168, extension 229 or visit the association website at www.cpa-acp.ca.
