RCMP investigates as Nanaimo football team targeted by thieves

Police in Nanaimo are investigating a break-in and theft at the Vancouver Island Raiders football team’s field house.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, the incident happened sometime between May 21 and 22 at the facility at 110 Wall St.

Team officials told police they were in the building the evening of May 21 and returned around 5 p.m. May 22 to find the lock on the front door had been compromised and it was apparent entry had been made to the building and various items taken.

Investigators received a list of items that were stolen that includes 20 Nike Vapor footballs, five travel bags, two Riddell helmets and two pairs of football cleats. Team jerseys, girdles, game pants and an assortment of tools and equipment were also reported stolen.

Currently police have no suspects or witnesses.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP detachment’s non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2023-17174.
