Town of Qualicum Beach council has issued a motion of censure against Coun. Teunis Westbroek for “conduct unbecoming of a member of town council.”
The decision was made at a special in camera meeting on Dec. 8.
“Council has taken this matter very seriously and would not have taken such actions over a minor concern,” said Mayor Brian Wiese. “Coun. Westbroek was given a copy of all materials relied on by council in considering this matter and he was given an opportunity to respond to the allegations prior to council’s consideration of the censure motion.”

Wiese said due to confidentiality and the protection of personal privacy, he is not able to further discuss the details of the matter.
Westbroek acknowledged he made a mistake and that he regrets his actions.
“Last fall, I requested staff deal with an issue that I should have discussed with council first,” said Westbroek. “My mistake which I have apologized for. No excuses. I know better.”
Westbroek said they have now moved on from the issue.
“For more than 25 years, I have worked diligently to help improve the quality of life for our residents, and I am confident that we can continue to work together to make wise decisions for the benefit of the people of Qualicum Beach that look to building a better future while learning from the lessons of the past,” said Westbroek.
