Vancouver Island University will receive over $50,500 from the B.C. government to pay for a pilot program for apprentice training.
The university began developing its innovation level 1 baker pilot program last month, which affords students the option of taking the course online. The online option includes “detailed videography demonstrations,” to provide instruction, said a press release from the B.C. government.
The first students will log on in January and are expected to complete the course in June.
The pilot program is intended to improve training outcomes and apprentice employability, the government said.
