Premier Clark to headline VIEA summit

Premier Christy Clark will headline a long list of keynote speakers at what is shaping up to be an impressive roster at the fifth annual State of the Island Economic Summit, hosted by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

Premier Christy Clark will headline a long list of keynote speakers at what is shaping up to be an impressive roster at the fifth annual State of the Island Economic Summit, hosted by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

The summit will take place at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre Oct. 18-19 and will address some of the challenges, ideas and vision pertaining to the Island's economy.

Clark's address‚ scheduled for 4 p.m. on Oct. 18, will feature her jobs strategy for the province, while other speakers will address topics like infrastructure, small business planning, what the future holds for traditional industry like forestry, mining and aquaculture, and tourism, among others.

"VIEA is an Island-wide collaboration dedicated to promoting a sustainable and diversified  economy for all residents of Vancouver Island," said Bill Benoit, VIEA chairman. "The premier's focus on B.C. jobs and economic growth is of interest to everyone as we work together towards a prosperous future."

It is expected that hundreds of delegates from Vancouver Island will participate in the summit in an effort to create opportunities for business growth and community development in the region.

The summit's opening reception will follow the premier's speech.
