Preliminary hearing set for stabbing case

NANAIMO – Arshil Parekh, 20, faces attempted murder charge in 2014 case.

A man charged in a May 2014 stabbing incident will learn this fall whether there is enough evidence for a trial.

A 16-year-old girl was found bleeding in a Rock City neighbourhood and was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Arshil Azim Parekh, 20, was arrested and charged with attempted murder shortly after the incident. Nanaimo RCMP said the girl and Parekh knew one another.

A preliminary inquiry is scheduled to begin Sept. 22.

Parekh is currently in custody.
