Port Alberni manslaughter suspect arrested in Nanaimo

NANAIMO: Suspect charged with manslaughter in Port Alberni caught hiding in bedroom closet.

A Port Alberni man who fled prior to appearing in court to face a manslaughter charge was caught by Nanaimo RCMP Thursday.

William David Oickle, 29, was charged with one count of manslaughter in the death of George Ledrew November 2011, but was free on bail pending his next court appearance scheduled for Nov. 26.

"He was out on bail, was in breach of his conditions and there were outstanding warrants for his arrest," said Const. Gary O'Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. "We acted on information provided and we found him in an apartment on St. George Crescent."

Mounties discovered Oickle hiding in a bedroom closet about 10 p.m.

Oickle was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Friday and will remain in custody.
