Pop-up plaza tests support for new village plan

The District of Lantzville's parking lot will transform into a pop-up plaza to help inspire public feedback on new improvement plan.

A temporary gathering place will pop up in Lantzville this month to help gauge public support for a budding village plan.

The District of Lantzville will transform its parking lot into a pop-up plaza on Saturday (June 21) as it tests community support for a central gathering place and collects feedback on the direction of a new village core improvement plan.

For the past year, the Village Commercial Core Improvement Committee has been working with the residents to craft a new look for the centre of the community, from streetscapes to sidewalks. The plan is aimed at helping guide future development.

Now, in the lead up to the release of a draft plan, the committee is looking for feedback on its direction.

There will be poster boards and staff members at the plaza event, as well as a village tour to show possible changes.

“Even if it’s somewhere you’ve passed 100 times, if you are thinking about what could be and proposals that you’ve heard then you look at things in a different way,” said Coun. Jennifer Millbank, committee chairwoman.

The pop-up event will run from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m with a walkabout at 11:30 a.m.

A draft plan is expected this September.
