An RCMP vehicle was involved in a crash on Gabriola Island yesterday.

A police SUV and a pickup truck collided Monday a little after 1 p.m. at the intersection of North Road, Barrett Road and Bertha Avenue.

Will Sprogis, a training officer/captain with the Gabriola Volunteer Fire Department, said the pickup was travelling straight through the intersection from Barrett Road and the RCMP vehicle was travelling eastbound along North Road when the accident happened.

He said there were “no major injuries,” though the police officer was taken to the medical clinic.

Sprogis said he’s personally seen close to 10 accidents at the same intersection over the years and believes traffic-control or traffic-calming measures are needed there.

“This is a recurring problem,” he said.
