Police search for slapping victim

NANAIMO: Mounties need to talk with a woman who allegedly had her buttocks slapped while she was jogging.

Nanaimo RCMP are investigating an incident from Tuesday morning when a female jogger was slapped on her buttocks by a male while she was out jogging near the intersection of Wellington and Jingle Pot roads.

Police said the woman ran into the Nanaimo Jim Pattison Hyundai dealership at about 9:30 a.m. and told an employee a man slapped her.

She then pointed toward where she last saw the suspect who was still standing near the intersection where the incident allegedly occurred.

The woman left and the employee went outside, called 911 and started following the suspect.

Mounties with a police service dog responded and identified a person of interest about 30 minutes later in the Labieux Road area.

Police spoke with the suspect, but had insufficient grounds to make an arrest.

The suspect is described as Caucasian in his mid 20’s, approximately six- feet tall with a shaved head. He was wearing a blue, red and green sweater with red and black pants.

“We also need to speak with the jogger. She left the area without providing her name and did not contact the detachment later in the day to  follow up,” said Const. Gary O’Brien. “She is a white female, 30-40 years of age with straight blonde hair. She was wearing black yoga pants and a black top.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
