Nanaimo RCMP have released the identity of the man accused of bear-spraying several people in a robbery attempt last week.

Randon Lloyd Broostrom, 26, of Nanaimo appeared in Nanaimo provincial court Tuesday where he was charged with assault with a weapon and robbery.

The charges stem from an attempt to rob a B.C. Lottery booth in Country Club Centre Oct. 3, when he allegedly used pepper spray to subdue the lottery booth clerk and to fight off several customers who tried to prevent him from fleeing the mall.

Police arrested Broostrom at his home in Nanaimo's south Jingle Pot area Monday.
