The Canadian Centre for Child Protection's Missing Kids program has issued a plea for the public to contact the organization with any information about Lucas Degerness, who has been missing for seven years.
What triggered the action was a phone call, last week, from a man who claimed to be Degerness.
Degerness, who is from Prince George, B.C., ran away from home in June 2007 at the age of 14 and has not been heard from until a the phone call that came through the Missing Kids toll-free, anonymous tip line.
Degerness's mother has never stopped looking for him.
"We've had a few pieces of information come in since we started doing this outreach and, again, it's hitting people you don't think about," said Christy Dzikowicz, Missing Kids director. "Who knows if its accurate, but people are coming and saying, 'You know what? I saw him a year ago when my life was in a different position,' or whatever it may be."
Missing Kids is based in Winnipeg and works with multiple police agencies across Canada.
Because the call came into the organization's anonymous tip line, which doesn't record information about callers or call origins, Dzikowicz said staff there have no idea where the call came from other than the call likely originate in Western Canada.
Degerness would be 21 now.

"While there's lots of possibilities, there's still that possibility that he's out there," Dzikowicz said.
