Parent council hosts workshop

NANAIMO – Event offers parents, family members and friends of students with special needs with focused education, networking and support.

The Nanaimo-Ladysmith District Parent Advisory Council partnered with the British Columbia Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils and the Nanaimo School District to host Special Education Parent Network Day – the second to be held in the province.

The event on Saturday (April 20) offers parents, family members and friends of students with special needs with focused education, networking and support.  They can meet and learn from others, and through this networking opportunity, continue to build relationships and share what is happening within the district and around the province.

The concept and need for this event arose from concerns that parents of students with special needs are often at a disadvantage. From district to district, available support and services vary and as one parent describes it, seeking information can be like “going on a treasure hunt without a clue.”

Tickets are $20 and includes lunch, refreshments and workshop materials. For more information and to register online: www.specialedparentnetwork.myevent.com.
