Open burning ban ends

Coastal Fire Centre lets open burning ban lapse with no plans for renewal.

A ban on open burning on the B.C. Coast has lapsed and won’t be renewed.

The prohibition ended Oct. 15 and was not extended after heavy rains dropped the wildfire risk on Vancouver Island from high to very low.

Donna MacPherson, fire information officer with Costal Fire Centre, said even though the ban has lapsed, she is still asking the public to be cautious with backyard burning, fireworks on Halloween and to abide with local municipal bylaws, which can vary in different municipalities.
