Oceanside RCMP use police dog to collar suspect after Nanoose Bay vehicle theft

Man, 19, remanded in custody

Oceanside RCMP used a police dog to collar a suspect following the theft of a vehicle in Nanoose Bay.

Police reported that they received a report on May 3, from a resident in Nanoose Bay who awoke to find his vehicle had been stolen overnight.

Later in the day, the RCMP received a report of a man seen going up and down driveways in the Nanoose Bay area. The caller recorded the licence plate for police, after watching the man get into the vehicle. It was confirmed to be the vehicle reported stolen earlier.

The caller was then able to direct Oceanside RCMP officers to a Nanoose Bay gas station where the suspect and vehicle were located. Upon police attendance, the suspect ran into the woods. A police dog was called and tracked the suspect.

Joel Edward Moody, 19, of Nanoose Bay was arrested without incident and held for court. Moody has been remanded in custody and makes his next appearance on May 28.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said charges of breaching court ordered conditions and possession of stolen property have been proposed.
