A suspect wrote what turned out to be empty threats on the wall of a Nanaimo fast food restaurant last night.

Nanaimo RCMP were called to the McDonald’s on Princess Royal Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 28, a little before 10 p.m. and police tape was set up around the property

Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, said staff at the restaurant noticed that a man spent an unusually long time in the washroom that night before leaving the premises.

“Employees went in, they found some scrawling on the wall saying there could be a bomb in the building,” O’Brien said.

RCMP searched the restaurant and a police dog team attended as well to do an additional search. Nothing suspicious was found and the restaurant was re-opened about an hour later, O’Brien said.

He said there is video surveillance of the suspect and the investigation is continuing.
