The office manager at the Nanaimo News Bulletin has been the talk of the town.
Wendy Garside and her husband Jim are Nanaimo’s big $500,000 winners after saying ‘yes’ to the Extra. Garside matched four-out-of-four numbers to win the top prize on the Aug. 3 Extra draw but didn’t check the ticket until a week later.
“I had gone into Rexall to purchase some hair dye,” said Garside. “When I checked the ticket, the terminal froze. I did a double take and started screaming and shaking.”
The couple have not yet decided what the money will be spent on.
“But I think a nice long family vacation is definitely in order,” she said.
Garside becomes the second of three winners to come forward to claim major prizes on the Aug. 3 lottery draw.
Another winner from Surrey claimed $240,000 after matching five-of six (plus bonus) numbers on their Lotto 6/49 ticket.
The largest prize will be awarded to a single Lotto 6/49 ticket sold in Richmond which matched all six numbers and will claim the $7 million jackpot.
A winner has not yet come forward.
