A neighbourhood book exchange that was burned in a suspicious fire in January has turned a new page in its ongoing saga.

On Thursday, Pheasant Hill Homes, which supplied free labour and materials to recreate the upper cabinet and doors, installed the bookcase at its former location, at the corner of Pine and Campbell streets – it will soon be filled with books and other good reads for the swapping.

Harry Ward, who built the original case from an old gun cabinet with his wife Cheryl and sister-in-law Carolynne Sacht, has also fabricated a children's bookcase for the site.

Glass panes for the door will be replaced free of charge, with leaded glass panels matching the originals by Cheeky Monkey Glassworks.
